BEST Accelerated Performance Model

The Traditional Approach to training events leads to improvements in knowledge and performance that are quickly lost after the training event. However, this loss is not inevitable. BEST can dramatically change the shape of the performance curve by making the training event part of an effective process of preparation, participation and performance support, carried out in an environment of measurement and accountability.

In the above model both knowledge and performance lines begin to build in advance of the training event. However, the real impact is seen after the programme as performance improvement is effectively supported through effective tools follow up events and coaching. As individuals are successful in bringing new knowledge to their jobs and creating improved results they gain new insights into the knowledge that they have developed. As a result both knowledge and performance continues to develop after the training event. It is at this point that a high return on investment is realised.

Sustained performance improvement requires that individuals spend the appropriate amount of time and energy in each stage of the performance improvement process. The Accelerated Performance Model helps us to understand the processes involved and organise our efforts to ensure that performance improves. The Accelerated Performance Model has three phases:

PHASE 1 : Preparation
• In this stage participants are prepared for the learning event. This maximises the impact of the training event and facilitates behavioural change in the work place.

PHASE 2 : Participation
• In this stage participants are immersed in the learning environment ensuring that the knowledge and skills required are embedded.

PHASE 3 : Performance
• In this stage the participants work to consolidate their learning into everyday behaviour in the work place, thus increasing effectiveness and business results.
